One fatality confirmed, many more residents injured in Wise County after tornado

The following is a release from Wise County Judge JD Clark:

Wise County emergency responders continue to manage a major severe‑weather incident impacting the Runaway Bay area this evening. The storm caused significant structural damage across multiple neighborhoods, resulting in at least 20 families displaced, numerous injuries, and one confirmed fatality.

Emergency crews from Wise County EMS, local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and multiple mutual‑aid partners remain actively engaged in rescue, medical response, and damage assessment.

All county ambulances are committed to the incident, and additional EMS and fire resources from surrounding jurisdictions are en route or already operating in the area.

Access to several affected structures is severely limited due to roadway blockages, downed utilities, and debris. Responders are coordinating closely with utility providers to clear hazards and restore safe access for rescue operations.

The American Red Cross is inbound to support displaced families and assist with sheltering and recovery needs.

A Reunification Center has been established at:
513 Port O’ Call Drive, Runaway Bay
Families seeking information about loved ones or needing assistance are encouraged to report to this location.

For the safety of residents and first responders, the public is strongly urged to avoid the Runaway Bay area. Clear roadways are essential for emergency access and ongoing life‑safety operations.

Man arrested for Manslaughter after woman shot in the face, Benbrook police say

On Friday, April 17, at 7:26pm, Benbrook Police and Fire/EMS responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Sproles Drive for a report of someone accidentally shot in the face. 

Upon arrival, officers observed the 42-year-old female victim unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to Harris Hosptial Downtown,where she was pronounced deceased.

After an on-scene investigation, officers arrested a 39-year-old male in connection to the shooting. He is currently being held on manslaughter charges.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man confesses to shooting, carjacking after victim’s body found in Fort Worth, police say

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Fort Worth Police Missing Persons Unit was notified about a missing person who did not return home from work on April 13, 2026. 

Missing Persons officers learned that the victim’s car was found at the Quality Inn at 121 E I-20 Frontage Road in Arlington.

On April 15, 2026, officers reviewed video surveillance from the motel and learned that an unknown person (suspect) arrived at the motel driving the victim’s car shortly after he left work.

On April 16, 2026, Missing Persons officers met with homicide detectives who took lead of the investigation. Detectives identified the suspect, and he was arrested for unrelated charges.

On April 17, 2026, homicide detectives found the victim’s body in an open field on the east side of Fort Worth.

Detectives spoke with the suspect, and he confessed to shooting the victim and stealing his car. 

Detectives learned that the victim and suspect worked together.

The suspect, Gregory D. Lewis, 34, remains in custody. Homicide detectives will be filing a capital murder charge.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner, cause of death, and identity of the deceased.

Two people killed in Fort Worth incident

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a double fatal accident that occurred just north of downtown on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at approximately 11:28 a.m., officers from Central division and Fort Worth Fire responded to a car accident near 1940 Delga Street. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that the car struck a parked car on Delga Street and then continued traveling a short distance before it stopped. First responders found a deceased adult male in the passenger area of the wrecked car. Fort Worth Fire provided medical care to the adult male driver, but he succumbed to his injuries and died on scene.

During the investigation of the accident, Fort Worth Fire discovered a large amount of an unknown chemical inside the vehicle. The area was secured and detectives were called to the scene. 

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for a possible exposure.

Detectives with the traffic investigations unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and additional details will be shared when available.

UPDATE

During the investigation of the accident, Fort Worth Fire discovered a large amount of an unknown chemical inside the vehicle. The area was secured, and traffic investigation detectives and narcotics officers were called to the scene.

Ten white plastic buckets full of liquid were found inside the car. The fumes from this liquid were very strong, but were contained inside this vehicle.

The content inside the buckets was tested and was presumptive positive for liquid methamphetamine. The total estimated weight of the substance was 480 pounds, and it has a potential street value between one and three million dollars.

Juvenile killed in pedestrian crash on Highway 183 in Irving

The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred late Saturday night.

Authorities say two vehicles were traveling westbound on the Highway 183 Express Lanes near Belt Line Road. A juvenile climbed over the cement guardrail into the express lanes, and was hit by both vehicles.

The juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as a 12-year-old male.

Police are still working to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Multiple vehicle crash claims life of female motorcyclist, FWPD says

On Sunday, April 12, at 10:38pm, Fort Worth Police and Fire/EMS responded to a major accident on southbound Interstate 35W near I20.

Officers arrived on scene and found a six-vehicle accident, according to FWPD.

Multiple individuals were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. One person, a female motorcyclist, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Southbound lanes of I35W were diverted onto I20 while FWPD’s Traffic Investigations Unit worked the scene.

The identity of the woman will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Five people shot at Fort Worth family gathering

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night in East Division.

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, at approximately 10:44 p.m., East Division officers were called to the 5200 block of Shackleford Street in reference to a shooting. 

Officers arrived on scene and found five adult victims with gunshot wounds. Fort Worth Fire was called to the scene to assist. The victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Officers learned that there was a family gathering when a verbal argument occurred. During that argument, 22-year-old, Jose Manuel Garcia produced a gun and fired towards the crowd injuring 5 people. 

Jose Manuel Garcia was arrested for aggravated assault with deadly weapon.

The investigation remains ongoing as gun violence detectives work to gather additional details to understand what fully transpired during the altercation and shooting.

This is believed to be an isolated incident.

“Gun violence will not be tolerated. The Fort Worth Police Department will continue holding those responsible accountable and ask the community to seek peaceful resolutions. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Department.”

Driver killed in violent Parker County crash

On Thursday, April 9th, at around 9:00am, multiple agencies responded to a crash on Interstate 20 near Farm to Market Road 1189 in western Parker County.

Authorities say an SUV was traveling westbound on IH20 and a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on IH20 in the left lane. The driver of the SUV failed to drive in a single lane and veered off the road onto the center median. The SUV then hit the end cable support beam and vaulted into the eastbound lanes of travel, where it struck the front end of the pickup truck. The SUV then went over the east bank of Little Grindstone Creek.

The driver of the SUV was killed in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was injured and transported to a local hospital.

Juvenile killed in accidental shooting at Fort Worth apartments

On April 5, 2026, at approximately 5:17 p.m., South Division officers were dispatched to 6600 block of S. Hulen Street, an apartment community, in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a 16 year old juvenile male victim with a gunshot wound who was pronounced deceased.

Officers learned that two teenagers were inside a residence at this location when one accidentally discharged a firearm, striking the other in the chest. The 16 year old juvenile male suspect was detained. 

Homicide detectives were notified and will investigate what led to the shooting. 

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased and determine the official cause and manner of death.

The Fort Worth Police Department recognizes the profound effect this tragic incident has on the victim’s family and the community. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fort Worth Police Department.

Burglar shot trying to get into Dallas home, police say

On Sunday, April 5, at approximately 5:55 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a burglary of a residence in progress in the 5200 block of Mystic Trail.

The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect attempting to enter a home was shot by a person inside. The injured suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition by Dallas Fire-Rescue.

The investigation is ongoing.
