Arlington fire and police units responded to the scene around 11pm along eastbound I20 just past Matlock Road. Three vehicles were on fire in the eastbound lanes near the Center Street bridge.
Officials closed all lanes of eastbound I20 while emergency responders worked the scene. A video from one of our followers showed police officers and firefighters searching the highway median for victims of the crash.
Police say a vehicle had become disabled along the freeway and a second vehicle stopped to help. Two people were outside of the vehicles when a third vehicle crashed into both of the vehicles, leading to serious damage and a large fire that engulfed all three vehicles.
Three people are confirmed dead. One of the passengers inside one of the vehicles was killed at the scene. One of the pedestrians was also killed at the scene, and the second died at a local hospital.
The driver of the vehicle that crashed into first vehicles has been arrested for DUI and charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter. He is a 29-year-old male from Farmers Branch.
