UPDATE: Welding slag identified as cause of fire at Globe Life Field

Officials with the Texas Rangers and Manhattan Construction have released additional details regarding the fire at Globe Life Field over the weekend.

Slag from a nearby welder fell into the materials and quickly caught fire. The Arlington Fire Dept. responded and contained the fire within about 30 minutes.

Luckily, no one was injured in the fire. Workers were evacuated from the site while firefighters contained the fire. They went right back to work that evening.

Structural engineers have inspected and cleared the building from any issues with the structure itself.

About 2,000 sq. feet of roofing was damaged and is in the process of being replaced.

The fire did not delay the opening of the stadium, which is scheduled for March of 2020.
