UPDATE: Cedar Hill police kill man who shot woman on highway, authorities say
On January 9, 2026, at approximately 8 pm, officers responded to the 1400 block of N Highway 67 regarding a major disturbance involving two vehicles. The caller reported that someone had shot at his vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle.
Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway. While conducting a high-risk stop on the car, a female exited the passenger side and was shot by the driver. The male driver exited the vehicle with a firearm. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the male.
Officers rendered aid to both subjects until paramedics arrived. EMS transported the male to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The female was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the incident. In accordance with department policy, following a critical incident, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
