Man armed with “sharp object” killed after charging towards FWPD officer, authorities say

On Thursday, March 12, 2026 at approximately 4:03 p.m., a Central Division FWPD officer was travelling northbound on US 287 near E. Maddox Avenue when he noticed an adult male leaning over the bridge with an object in his hand.

The officer stopped to check on the man and realized that he had a sharp object in his hand. The male then began to cut himself on the neck. Once the officer was out of his vehicle, the man ran toward the officer with the sharp object. The officer fired his weapon.

During this interaction, there were multiple callers reporting a male on the bridge with glass in his hand cutting his neck. A third caller reported that a person was on the bridge trying to jump, was cutting himself, stated he ran toward the officer, and the individual was shot.

Medical aid was provided by officers and Fort Worth Fire was called to the scene. The man was pronounced deceased on scene at approximately 4:28 p.m.

Detectives with the Major Case Unit and Internal Affairs are on scene handling the investigating.
