Driver killed in crash during Fort Worth police chase

On April 5, 2026, at approximately 2:34 a.m., Central Division officers with the Fort Worth Police Department were involved in a vehicle pursuit that resulted in a fatal crash.

Officers initially observed a vehicle traveling on the highway without headlights on I35W near Rosedale. The suspect vehicle struck another vehicle and failed to stop. Officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver did not yield and fled southbound on Interstate 35W.

During the pursuit, officers observed the suspect vehicle strike a second vehicle and again fail to stop. The pursuit continued until the suspect exited the highway near Tarver Road.

Officers briefly lost sight of the suspect vehicle, but continued to search for it. While officers were driving in the 1500 block of Tarver Road, the suspect vehicle was located off the roadway where it had crashed.

Inside the vehicle, officers found 2 adult males, one being the passenger who exited the vehicle with what appeared to be minor injuries. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

No officers or other citizens reported injuries as a result of this incident.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit and Major Case Unit responded and are actively investigating. Detectives are working to determine the full circumstances leading up to the pursuit and crash.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased and determine the official cause and manner of death.
