UPDATE: Armed carjacker shot by Fort Worth police

On July 11, 2024 at approximately 5:17pm, officers were advised of a FLOCK activation of a stolen vehicle described as a maroon GMC Sierra being driven in the area of Ephriham and Azle Ave.

Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

During this pursuit, one patrol vehicle was struck by the suspect vehicle but no injuries to that officer were reported.  As the pursuit continued on, officers were able to successfully spike the stolen vehicle.

At approximately 5:40pm, the suspect vehicle lost control and skid to a stop when it collided with another vehicle in a business parking lot located at the intersection of NW 28th St and McKinley Ave.  Once the suspect vehicle came to a stop, the suspect exited the vehicle holding a firearm.  The suspect then pointed the firearm directly at a civilian in front of him who was in the parking lot standing next to a white SUV.  The civilian ran away from the suspect.  The suspect then entered the white SUV.

Officers observed the suspect point his weapon at that civilian and attempt to carjack his vehicle.  Officers feared the suspect may attempt to escape in the SUV and potentially cause harm to other innocent civilians.

Officers opened fire towards the driver side of the SUV that the suspect was inside of in an attempt to stop the suspect.

The suspect then exited the SUV still holding the firearm.  Officers gave loud verbal commands to the suspect to drop his weapon, but the suspect refused to comply.  The suspect was then observed pointing the firearm towards a business located in the parking lot of this location that was occupied by other civilians.

Fearing that the suspect may cause harm to the other civilians, officers again began to fire upon the suspect.  The suspect was struck several times by officers’ gunfire and dropped the weapon.  Officers moved in, secured the suspect and the firearm, and immediately began providing medical treatment to the suspect.

The suspect was then transported to a local hospital where he is continuing to receive medical treatment and was listed in stable condition at the time of this writing.

No officers or other civilians were injured during this incident.

This information is preliminary and this investigation is still ongoing.  Major case arrived at the location and is conducting a thorough investigation which will be forwarded to the DA’s office for review.

The suspect is described as an adult Hispanic male.

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, the Dalworthington Gardens Department of Public Safety received information from the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office that threats of violence and death had been made against members of a household in Dalworthington Gardens (DWG). The notification also included information that the individual had an active warrant for Assault Serious Bodily Injury Family Violence with Previous Conviction; was reportedly armed with multiple firearms; and had made threats to kill law enforcement officers. As a result, the residence was placed on a Close Patrol, where officers checked on the location multiple times per shift.

On Friday, July 12, 2024, at approximately 2:27 a.m., officers with the Dalworthington Gardens Department of Public Safety were checking on the residence that had been placed on a Close Patrol and they encountered the wanted person that had made threats against the family, and law enforcement. The officers attempted to stop the individual, but they did not comply and instead attempted to evade officers using a motor vehicle. DWG officers pursued the individual and were assisted by officers from the Town of Pantego, and other agencies.

I20 reopens following overnight fatal crash investigation in Arlington

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Arlington PD, FD, and EMS responded to the eastbound lanes of I-20 near E. Loop 820 after multiple drivers called 911 to report they may have struck a person who was in the roadway.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the remains of an adult male. They have been unable to identify the man.

It appears the man was a passenger in a vehicle that got into a wreck shortly before he was struck.

Investigators believe a sedan was traveling eastbound along I-20 when it swerved and hit a road construction barricade on the left side of the highway. This caused the driver to lose control of the car, travel across all lanes of traffic, and strike a concrete barrier on the right side of the highway. While the vehicle was crossing over to the right, the front passenger door of the Lucerne opened and the victim came out of the vehicle, landing in the roadway.

He was then hit by multiple vehicles. None of the drivers who hit him are facing criminal charges.

The driver of the sedan was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

I-20 was shut down for most of the morning through the area while officers investigated the incident and hazmat crews cleaned the roadway. All lanes of I-20 reopened at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Officer shoots, kills armed suicidal man during Bedford standoff

At approximately 2 p.m. today, July 10, Bedford Police received notification a stolen vehicle’s license plate was picked up by flock cameras. Officers located the vehicle and driver, who was in a local business.

The subject stopped in the 2200 block of Central Drive, where he conveyed suicidal thoughts to officers. For several hours, officers attempted to deescalate the situation and persuade the subject to put the firearm down. Unfortunately, negotiations were unsuccessful, and officers used non-lethal methods to subdue the subject.

During that process, the subject started trying to escape. Officers perceived the subject threatened them, and a Hurst member of the Northeast Tarrant County SWAT team shot the suspect.

The subject passed away on the way to the hospital.

This is an active investigation. The incident is being reviewed by the Bedford Police Criminal Investigations Division, in conjunction with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. The Hurst Police officer has been placed on administrative leave.
