Vehicle/Foot Pursuit (Grand Prairie) Info from Grand Prairie PD: “At approximately 10:30am, an officer on routine patrol in the 1600blk of Dalworth Street observed a maroon 1995 GMC Suburban stop the vehicle in the middle of the roadway. As the officer watched this violation, he also observed a female run into the street and get into the passenger side of the vehicle.
Believing that the officer just observed the offense of prostitution, the officer attempted to make an investigative stop on the vehicle. The suspect then fled from the officer at a high rate of speed.
At times the suspect fled the wrong way on major highways such as Loop 12 and IH – 30. Keeping the safety of the public in mind, Officers backed off from the suspect and did not pursue the wrong way on the highways. DPD Air – 1 was then utilized by giving the location of the suspect.
The pursuit continued back into Grand Prairie where the suspect attempted to travel the wrong way on the service road of NB 161 at IH 30. As the suspect made the turn, the vehicle collided with a street sign and the driver fled on foot.
Officers pursued the driver who ran down the embankment to the main lanes of 161 where he was apprehended on highway 161 SB.
During the foot pursuit, a Grand Prairie Officer suffered minor injuries after falling approximately 8-10 feet from the embankment to the highway. That officer was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
The suspect was transported to the Grand Prairie Detention Center. As officers arrived at the detention center, the suspect stated he had swallowed a large amount of narcotics during the pursuit. The suspect was transported to an area hospital by ground ambulance and later released.”
