Dallas Police investigate early morning shooting at Dallas store

The Dallas Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting at a store in south Dallas.

Dallas police officers responded to the scene around 1:00am at Ruben’s Grocery parking lot, 1207 E. Red Bird Lane. Ruben’s Grocery, which appears to be a deli and beer/wine stop, is located at the intersection of University Hills Blvd / N. Houston School Road at E. Red Bird Lane in south Dallas.

Upon arrival, officers located a female on the ground next to the front door of the establishment. She had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene and transported her to the hospital where she later died.

After investigating the scene and talking to witnesses, it was determined that the female victim took a gun from an unlocked car in the parking lot of the business. The owner of the vehicle, who was inside the store, witnessed the theft and confronted her outside.

A struggle ensued, and the weapon fired as he was attempting to take it away from the victim. Ultimately, the female was struck by the gunshot.

The owner of the gun remained at the scene and was questioned by Dallas police officers. After the interviews, it was determined that the shooter would be released pending a ruling from the Dallas County Grand Jury. The investigation is ongoing.
