UPDATE: One person dead after multi-vehicle crashes on I20 in south Arlington
As we first reported last night, multiple units from Arlington Fire Department, Arlington EMS, and Arlington police responded to the scene of a multiple vehicle crash along Interstate 20 at the Kelly Elliott Road exit.
“Officers arrived on scene and located a total of six vehicles which had stopped along the freeway and were believed to be involved in multiple crashes” says Arlington police officials.
Investigators believe that there were a total of three crashes. Two vehicles were involved in the first crash. One of the drivers was attempting to push his vehicle onto the shoulder when he and his vehicle was struck by a passing vehicle, resulting in the second crash. Immediately following this crash, a third crash occurred with multiple vehicles in which investigators believe were trying to avoid the previous crash scenes.
The driver from the first crash who was struck by the second crash was transported to Medical City of Arlington, but died as a result of his injuries.
Multiple lanes of eastbound I20 were closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.
