Two people struck and killed on I35E in Red Oak following motorcycle crash

The Red Oak Police Department says two people, a motorcyclist and a vehicle driver, were both struck and killed by an 18-wheeler early this morning after a crash.

Based on information released by the department, a motorcycle and a vehicle were involved in a crash along the southbound lanes of I35E just before 4:00am this morning. The operator, identified as a 64-year-old man, was ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 40-year-old man, pulled over to check on the motorcycle rider. As he exited his vehicle to check on the rider, an 18-wheeler attempted to take evasive action and struck both the driver of the vehicle and the motorcycle rider.

The 64-year-old motorcycle rider was declared deceased on the scene. It was not released whether his fatal injuries were a result of the first ejection, or the overrun from the semi truck.

The 40-year-old driver was critically injured and airlifted from the scene by PHI Med 8 helicopter to Medical City Arlington, but pronounced deceased.

The driver of the 18-wheeler stopped on the shoulder of the highway following the accident.

The crashes remain under investigation at this time.
