Carrollton police arrest financial advisor in shooting death of client
The Carrollton Police Department has arrested a 48-year-old man and charged him with the murder of a 62-year-old Carrollton resident earlier this year.
On February 19th of this year, Carrollton police responded to a shooting investigation on Cannes Drive, where they located a 62-year-old man deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. There was a typed suicide note left beside the man’s body; however, investigators located evidence at the scene to indicate it may not have been a self-inflicted wound.
Over the course of nine months, homicide detectives processed all the evidence and determined that it was a homicide.
The investigation revealed that 48-year-old Keith Todd Ashley, who was the financial advisor to the victim, incapacitated the man, then murdered him in an attempt to gain control of his finances, police say. Ashley visited the home periodically and consulted with the victim on financial matters.
“During the course of the investigation, detectives also identified several other victims of a Ponzi-type scheme Ashley orchestrated,” said Carrollton police.
Mr. Ashley was arrested as his home in Allen on Friday, November 13th on related wire fraud charges. He has also been charged in this murder.
