Garbage man killed in tragic accident in Grapevine neighborhood

The Grapevine Police Department is investigating the death of a garbage pickup man.

On Tuesday around 2:30pm, emergency responders from Grapevine FD/EMS and PD along with Colleyville PD responded to an incident in the 4100 block of Cedar Drive.

Officials say a Republic garbage collection truck had broken down in the neighborhood. A mechanic was called out to troubleshoot and make repairs on the truck. While the mechanic was inside the cab of the truck, he moved the hydraulic arm and seriously injured one of the garbage collectors. The mechanic stepped outside of the cab and saw the man laying on the ground with severe injuries.

A Colleyville police officer was first on the scene and began rendering life-saving efforts on the man. Additional officers and paramedics responded and provided CPR, but he was pronounced deceased on the scene several minutes later.

The worker has been identified as a 56-year-old man from Haltom City. He was an employee with Republic Garbage.

Grapevine PD is investigating the incident. No charges have been filed at this time.
