Multiple people hurt in multi-vehicle rollover crash on I20 in Mesquite

The Mesquite Police Department is investigating a major accident that occurred around 6:48pm Sunday evening along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Lawson Road in Dallas County.

Officials say a Chevrolet SUV had come to a near stop due to a piece of furniture in the road. As the SUV came to a stop, it was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. This collision caused the Chevrolet SUV to veer right and hit a Ford SUV, causing the Ford SUV and the 18-wheeler to overturn.

A total of six people were injured in the crash. An occupant in the Chevrolet SUV was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Ford SUV, a 48-year-old man from Crandall, sustained serious injuries. His condition is listed as stable, according to police. Three other occupants inside the Ford SUV were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 62-year-old man from Chillicothe, also sustained serious injuries. He is listed in stable condition.

Lanes of eastbound I-20 were closed for an extended period of time while Mesquite police cleared up the scene.
