UPDATE: Four firefighters recovering after Dallas Engine 11 hydroplanes, falls off highway

On July 21, 2024 at about 5:50 AM, Dallas Fire Rescue was dispatched to a possible structure fire in Swiss Avenue.

While responding to the incident, Engine 11 hydroplaned on the wet roadway, lost control, and fell off the southbound Central Expressway (Interstate 345) bridge onto the DART rail tracks below.

Engine 18 called a Mayday and requested a full USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) response for extrication of the crew.

Four DFR firefighters were transported to Baylor Dallas hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A large highway sign was also damaged and blocked all southbound lanes of Interstate 345 in the area.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Heavy duty wreckers continue to work in the area, so expect delays.
