Intoxicated driver arrested after causing fatal collision, Arlington police say

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a suspected DWI crash that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man.

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers responded to the eastbound lanes I-20 near Bowen Road to investigate a crash involving a pickup truck and a car.

When they arrived on scene, the car was fully engulfed. After Arlington firefighters extinguished the fire, they discovered the remains of the 22-year-old man inside. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators determined the vehicle was stopped along the inside shoulder of the highway when a pickup truck drifted off the main lanes and slammed into the back of the car. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to hit a concrete wall, which then ignited the fire.

Witnesses told officers they saw three men exit the pickup truck following the crash and run from the scene. Officers located all three individuals nearby and detained them.

They identified the driver of the pickup as 25-year-old Cesar Ramirez Castro. Based on their conversation with him and other factors they observed, officers believed Mr. Ramirez Castro could be intoxicated. They performed a series of roadside sobriety tests on him. Based on the results, they arrested Mr. Ramirez Castro and booked him into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Collision Involving Death.

Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample from Mr. Ramirez Castro, which was collected and sent to a lab for further analysis.

The two passengers in the pickup, 30-year-old Marcelino Ramirez-Ramirez and 24-year-old Daniel Castro Zammarron, were both arrested and booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Public Intoxication.

Driver killed in crash while fleeing from Allen police

The Allen Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one individual early Tuesday morning on US 75 service road at the Frontage Road exit.

On March 18th at approximately 2:35 AM, an Allen Police officer initiated a traffic stop while on duty in a marked patrol vehicle. The officer attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle by activating the red and blue overhead emergency lights.

In lieu of stopping, the driver accelerated in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement. The vehicle exited Southbound US 75 onto the Frontage Road, and, in less than a minute, the driver lost control and crashed into a wooded area along the westside of the service road. The vehicle ultimately came to rest on its passenger side, pinned against a tree.

Allen Police officers approached the wrecked vehicle but found the driver unresponsive and trapped inside.

Allen Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and determined the subject to be deceased.

Allen officers conducted a thorough grid search of the area to ensure no other occupants had been ejected from the vehicle or fled the scene. Additionally, Allen Fire conducted a thermal imaging scan of the surrounding area. No additional individuals were located.

The Collin County Medical Examiner arrived on the scene, pronounced the subject deceased, and took custody of the individual. The scene was processed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Granbury ISD released the following statement:

GISD Parents,

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news that one of our Emma Roberson Early Learning Academy students passed away this morning due to an incident involving one of our buses. We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students. Please join me in keeping the family and our schools in your thoughts and prayers during this devastating time.

We are working through the incident with local law enforcement and will share more details when they are available but out of respect for the family, we will not share student information at this time. The district has directly communicated with all families of students that were on the bus when the incident occurred; no other students were injured. Our focus remains on supporting the student’s family and the Emma Roberson ELA campus at this time.

We know students may respond in many different ways to this news, whether they personally knew the student or not. Chaplains, school counselors and staff will be available as needed, and upon parent request, to meet with students and parents grieving over the coming weeks.

I know you share in the devastation of this loss and may have many questions. We all have the expectation that students will be safe on our buses and in our district. We are already working to fully understand the situation and will share more information after we have had the time to investigate the incident.

Thank you for joining us as we support this family and each other during this tragedy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Courtney Morawski
GISD Superintendent

Update: Pallets catch fire at Dallas recycling facility

On Sunday, March 16, at 3:43 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) units were dispatched in response to a 911 call for a fire at the Cham Star Recycling facility, located at 4141 Singleton Blvd.

When first arriving companies arrived at the large commercia facility, they reported out with heavy fire and black smoke coming from behind the location. Using hand lines, and multiple aerial ladder towers to spray water from above, firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. As it currently stands, there are several hot spots remaining within the remnants, so an excavator has been requested to dig through the debris to find and extinguish them.

According to on scene personnel, most of what was burning was pallets holding various paper materials. There was no one working in the area where the fire began, and there were no reported injuries.

DFR’s HazMat team was dispatched as a precaution, but they confirmed that no hazardous materials were involved in the fire.

The cause of this fire is undetermined.

The Garland Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on March 15, 2025, just after 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of East Oates Road and Miami Drive, involving two pedestrians.

Upon arrival, officers found two victims in the roadway; a 14-year-old female, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, and a 16-year-old male who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
