Armed man shot, critically injured by Carrollton officer
On Tuesday, August 12th, at around 9:48pm, Carrollton police officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2700 block of E. Belt Line Road.
During the traffic stop, officers developed reasonable suspicion of narcotics activity and began a drug investigation. During the investigation, the driver brandished a firearm and threatened to shoot himself. He got out of the vehicle and began walking away with the gun pointed to his head, threatening to shoot officers and himself. He walked a short distance before running into the 14900 block of Venture Drive in Farmers Branch.
As Carrollton officers chased after the man, he turned toward them with the gun in his hand. A Carrollton officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect multiple times. He was then taken into custody.
Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. He has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Convicted Felon), a third-degree felony, and Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, a first-degree felony.
