Armed man shot and killed by Garland police after firing shots at them from his house

The Garland Police Department responded to a disturbance involving a weapon around midnight in the 1900 block of Vail Drive.

When officers arrived, they attempted to speak with individuals in the garage of the house. During this encounter, at least one person begin firing shots at officers through the garage door. The officers retreated to safety and notified SWAT.

During the investigation, officers learned a child was sleeping in the house where the suspect had barricaded himself. Fearing for the safety of the child, SWAT officers made entry into the house and encountered the suspected armed with two pistols. One SWAT officer discharged his firearm, killing the suspect.

The child was found unharmed in the house.

The incident remains under investigation.
