Driver flees after hitting couple riding scooter in Lower Greenville; one killed

The Dallas Police Department and Fire-Rescue Department responded to a major accident involving a vehicle and a scooter around 7:54PM Saturday night in the 2600 block of Matilda Street.

Police say a black GMC SUV was traveling northbound on Matilda when it struck a scooter operated by a man and occupied by a woman. Witnesses said the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transported both the operator and the rider of the scooter to the hospital. The operator, identified as a 28-year-old man, was pronounced deceased. The rider, a 25-year-old woman on the back of the scooter, was conscious and did not appear to have sustained any life-threatening injuries.

The driver is a suspect in this crash and still on the loose.
