2 dead after 18-wheeler hits crashed vehicle on I-45 in Palmer

The Palmer Police Department is investigating a serious crash with fatality that occurred just before midnight last night in the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 near Mile Marker 260 in Palmer.

At 11:57PM, Palmer fire and police along with paramedics from Ellis County EMS responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located one vehicle fully engulfed in flames and a badly damaged 18-wheeler.

According to police, the vehicle had struck a median while traveling along the interstate and came to rest sideways on the highway. An 18-wheeler collided with the vehicle on the driver’s side, causing the vehicle to erupt in flames.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, now identified as a man from Hutchins and a woman from Forney, were found deceased in the vehicle after the fire was put out. The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained a few scrapes and cuts, but will be OK.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
