Carjacking leads to discovery of deceased woman inside abandoned vehicle in Mansfield

Just before 1PM today, the Mansfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call of a carjacking at the Texas State Optical Mansfield facility, 1600 block of N. Highway 287 near Debbie Lane.

Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the carjacking victim, who stated a man jumped out of another vehicle in the parking lot and stole her car at gunpoint. He then drove off northbound onto the Highway 287 feeder road.

Police investigated the vehicle from which the suspect emerged, and discovered a deceased woman in the passenger’s seat. She had been shot and killed, according to investigators.

Officers checked the license plate of the abandoned vehicle and responded to the address associated with it. They responded to that location and observed the vehicle that was carjacked from the parking lot.

A person of interest was taken into custody.

The motive of the killing is still under investigation. It is not yet clear how the suspect and the deceased woman were related.

The deceased victim has not yet been publicly identified.

Mansfield police blocked off the business for much of the afternoon while officers investigated the scene.
