Woman picking up trash along highway struck, killed by vehicle in Arlington
The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatality accident involving a pedestrian that occurred this afternoon along westbound Interstate 20 near Collins Street.
At around 1:15PM, an SUV was traveling westbound on Interstate 20 when it changed lanes and hit a Jeep in the rear. This caused the SUV to lose control and leave the roadway, hitting a pedestrian near the center median.
The Jeep struck a woman who was picking up trash along the highway. She was working for a contractor who was hired to clear trash and other debris. Police say she was wearing a reflective vest.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified her as a 53-year-old woman from Fort Worth.
The driver of the SUV, who caused the initial collision, was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.
