3 killed after car splits in half, plunges off bridge in Dallas crash

The Dallas Police Department is investigating a severe crash that killed three people last night in southeast Dallas.

Just before 8:15PM, multiple Dallas Fire Rescue and Police Department personnel were called to the scene on S. Great Trinity Forest Way just east of Interstate 45 for a major crash. One vehicle had reportedly crashed off the bridge.

Investigators say a sedan driving westbound on the roadway crossed over and hit an eastbound vehicle head-on. This caused the westbound sedan to split into two pieces. The passenger compartment of the sedan then plunged off the bridge.

All three occupants inside the sedan were ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was transported by Dallas Fire Rescue to a local hospital with major injuries.

Lanes of Great Trinity Forest Way were shut down between I-45 and the Trinity Forest Golf Club while police investigated the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
