Young driver runs red light, causes fatal crash in west Dallas

The Dallas Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred just after midnight at the intersection of Canada Drive and N. Westmoreland Road.

At 12:10am, Dallas Fire Rescue and Police were called to the intersection after two vehicles collided.

Traffic investigators believe a sedan was traveling southbound on N. Westmoreland Road when the driver, an 18-year-old male, ran a red light at the intersection with Canada Drive. This caused a westbound pickup truck to broadside the passenger vehicle on the driver’s side. The passenger vehicle overturned and hit a pole.

A rear passenger in the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as a 55-year-old male.

The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle at-fault was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 17-year-old male, was also transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
