Arlington police looking for driver who hit, killed elderly man checking his mail

The Arlington Police Department is looking for the driver responsible for hitting and killing an elderly man yesterday evening as he was checking his mailbox.

At around 4:30pm, multiple emergency responders were called to the 900 block of E. Timberview Lane after a 9-1-1 caller reported a man was laying in the road. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

Officials spoke with the man’s wife who said he went out to check his mail and did not return. After several minutes, she went outside and noticed the firefighters and police a few doors down. Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that the car may have dragged the man down the street.

“The department is asking neighbors to check their home surveillance systems for possible video footage from 4:00pm until 4:30pm around the crash area, including Collins Street and E. Timberview Lane.”

Texas law requires a driver to stop and render aid during crashes that cause injury or death.
