Intoxicated wrong-way driver causes crash that kills two young women in Irving

The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred around 2:45am overnight.

Irving police officers and firefighters responded to the scene along southbound State Highway 161 at the Highway 183 interchange. The crash involved two vehicles with entrapment.

Officials say a 23-year-old woman was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of State Highway 161 when she collided head-on with another car.

Two people inside the vehicle hit by the wrong way driver were pronounced deceased at the scene. They have both been identified as a 21-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman. The driver of their vehicle, a 21-year-old man, sustained critical injuries. A dog riding in the vehicle was also killed.

The wrong way driver sustained serious injuries. Police are expecting to charge her with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Intoxication Assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
