Armed fugitive killed by police during traffic stop in east Arlington

An armed fugitive from Arkansas was shot and killed by an Arlington police officer this evening after a task force tracked him down in the east Arlington area.

Officials with the North Texas Fugitive Task Force tracked down a wanted felon this afternoon as he driving along E. Pioneer Parkway. Patrol officers were called to assist in conducting a traffic stop on his vehicle and take him into custody.

After officers pulled the man over, they approached his vehicle to speak with him. As they approached, the suspect brandished a weapon and pointed it at one of the officers. The officer fired and shot the suspect at least once. Paramedics responded to the scene, but pronounced the suspect deceased.

The suspect has been identified as a man in his 40’s. He was wanted on multiple counts of rape and indecency with a child.

The officer involved, who has been identified only as a 19-year veteran of the force, was not injured.

“It is common practice for outside agencies to contact other law enforcement agencies to help locate and arrest outstanding fugitives who may have fled the original jurisdiction. The North Texas Fugitive Task Force assists outside agencies in these endeavors. Today’s case was an example of a request for assistance from the state of Arkansas in regards to this wanted fugitive.”
