Young child killed in crash along I-30 in Dallas

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality accident that occurred late Wednesday evening along Interstate 30 near Haskell Avenue.

At around 10:30pm, Dallas Fire Rescue and DSO deputies were called to the scene on eastbound Interstate 30 just passed the I-45 / 75 interchange. When officers arrived, they found a wrecked vehicle and a frantic man and woman. It was determined that a young child had been involved in the crash and was not found inside the vehicle.

The child was located at the scene, where life-saving measures were conducted by numerous first responders. Dallas Fire Rescue transported the child to nearby Baylor Hospital. The child was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Traffic investigators believe the family was traveling eastbound on highway when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle. The driver lost control, hit the HOV red arrow, and veered across all lanes of the highway, eventually coming to a stop at the Peak Street exit ramp. At some point during the collision, the young child was ejected from the vehicle.

The child’s mother was driving at the time. The father was riding in the vehicle. The child has been identified as a 2-year-old.
