19-year-old woman killed in shooting on I35E in Denton; suspect arrested

The Denton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon along the northbound lanes of Interstate 35E near McCormick Street.

At around 1:45pm, Denton PD and FD/EMS were notified of a possible domestic situation on the highway. A man was seen shoving a bloody woman into a car on the highway. Officers arrived and found the woman, who had been shot. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital, but she was pronounced deceased.

Officers closed Interstate 35E after receiving reports that the man fled the area on foot. Their search led them to meet with a nearby resident who had helped the suspect call for an Uber. The resident was unaware that the man had just committed a crime.

The suspect was tracked through Uber and subsequently arrested by the Dallas PD when the Uber arrived at the destination. He has been identified as a 22-year-old male suspect, now charged with Murder.

The victim has been identified as a 19-year-old woman from Denton.

“We are thankful our officers acted quickly in this situation and were able to track the suspect even after he left the City limits. Additionally, we are grateful for our partnerships with the community and with Dallas PD, who directly contributed to this arrest. Our hearts go out to the family of the victim, who is not being identified at this time.” – Denton PD
