Teenager drowns at Joe Pool Lake

Just after 6:00pm this evening, multiple emergency responders from Grand Prairie FD and PD responded to a drowning incident at Joe Pool Lake. A 17-year-old male swimming near a beach area went underwater and did not resurface.

Rescue crews searched for approximately 30 minutes before eventually finding the man’s body. Life-saving measures were performed by paramedics as they transported him to Medical City Arlington, but he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Officials with the Fire Department say the teen was not wearing a life jacket while swimming.

As the weather gets nicer and people flock to lakes and swimming pools, these incidents will become more common. Please wear a life jacket when you are on a boat and near or in the water. Do not become the next tragedy.
