Denton woman arrested for murder in the death of her 3-year-old grandson

The Denton Police Department has arrested a 57-year-old woman and charged her with murder after an investigation into her 3-year-old grandson’s death.

On January 18th, the Denton Police Department was notified of a severely injured child seeking treatment at a hospital in their city. The grandmother reported to hospital staff that the child had accidentally fallen down a flight of stairs, causing the severe injuries.

Authorities and medical staff were unconvinced of her story and began an investigation into the matter. After a thorough investigation, including interviews with the child’s doctors, the grandmother confessed to the crime. She admitted to “forcefully throwing” the child onto the bathroom floor and against a wall. The child suffered major trauma and was pronounced deceased at the hospital on January 22nd.

The grandmother was the legal guardian of the child. She is facing a Murder charge.

“This is a tragic reminder of how devastating child abuse can be, and how the relationship between suspect and victim can vary,” said the Denton PD in a statement. “If you suspect or know a child who is being abused, please call the Denton Police Department at 940-349-8181 of the Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas at 972-317-2818.
