Two drivers killed after 18-wheeler crashes into vehicles on 287 near Midlothian

The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred earlier this morning along southbound Highway 287 between Mansfield and Midlothian.
At around 12:00pm, Grand Prairie Fire/EMS, Midlothian Fire/EMS, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Midlothian PD, and Grand Prairie PD were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash along southbound 287 near FM 661.
Police say the driver of an 18-wheeler failed to control his speed when approaching congested traffic and slammed into three vehicles. Two drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. Occupants in the third vehicle were not seriously injured.
CareFlite airlifted one person from the scene.
Police say both victims were men.
The crash closed lanes of Highway 287 for several hours while police investigated the scene and cleared the wreckage.
The accident remains under investigation.
