Officers were not pursuing and did not spike vehicle before fatal crash, Irving police say

The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred over the weekend in the 600 block of North Belt Line Road near Conflans Road.
Police say two vehicles were traveling northbound on Belt Line when they collided, sending one of the vehicles into a spin. This vehicle crashed off the roadway and hit a tree. The violent impact from the collision caused the vehicle to wrap around the tree.
A passenger inside the car was pronounced deceased. The driver was not seriously hurt. A third passenger sustained serious injuries.
The identities have not yet been released, but police say everyone inside the vehicle was in the 18-19 year old range.
A post circulating on social media indicated Irving police spiked the vehicle immediately before the crash occurred. Irving Police Department confirms their officers were not in pursuit and did not use the tire deflation system on either vehicle.
Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
