Armed man killed in officer involved shooting at Irving hospital

The Irving Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred Wednesday evening at Baylor Scott and White Hospital, 1901 N. MacArthur Blvd.

At around 7:00pm, a 34-year-old man arrived at the hospital’s ER for an undisclosed medical reason. He was taken into one of the emergency rooms for evaluation. About an hour later, a staff member checked on the man and reported unusual behavior and possession of a firearm. She notified a police officer at Baylor who also contacted an Irving police officer at the hospital on an unrelated matter.

When the two officers confronted the man about the weapon, he fired a single gunshot in the ER room. The officers attempted to get him to drop the weapon, but he pointed and fired at the officers. The officers returned fire, striking and killing him.

No officers were injured in the incident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
