Mother and child killed in crash near Alvarado
The Alvarado Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred this afternoon on Highway 67 near County Road 810 a few miles west of Alvarado.
Alvarado FD and PD along with Johnson County EMS (AMR) responded to the collision between 2pm and 3pm this afternoon. Early reports indicate a passenger vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler. A second 18-wheeler was also involved in the crash.
The Keene Independent School District has confirmed a first grader at Keene Elementary School was one of the victims. The young girl’s mother was also killed in the crash.
Keene ISD issued a statement which reads in part: “During this time, as the school community processes this news and copes with grief, the school district will offer counseling support services to all of our students, staff and parents who may be struggling with ways to explain this situation to their child. Counselors and local clergy will be on hand at Keene Elementary for students and staff who need support tomorrow. If you would like to speak with a counselor, please call (817) 774-5323.”
Alvarado PD is the investigating agency. They have not released any information regarding the crash as of 6:15pm. We will update this story when information is released.
