Person of interest in murder case dies hours after being arrested by Dallas police

On June 21, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Dallas Police conducted a traffic stop involving a person of interest in an ongoing murder investigation.
The preliminary investigation determined the individual, 39-year-old male, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants without incident and was taken to Dallas Police Headquarters to be interviewed regarding the ongoing investigation.
After the interview, the arrested individual told officers that he was feeling ill and needed to go to the hospital.
Dallas Fire Rescue was immediately notified at 3:11 PM, responded at 3:15 PM and took him to a local hospital at 3:37pm, arriving at 4:10 PM. He died at the hospital at 9:00 PM.
An autopsy will be performed on June 23, and toxicology is pending.
The investigation is ongoing and being investigated by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit under case number 113640-2023.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s office was notified and will conduct their own investigation.
The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified.
