McKinney police shoot suicidal man armed with a knife

The McKinney Police Department and Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Bumpass Street.
At 8:16pm, McKinney police responded to the Woodside Village Apartments for a report of a man armed with a knife and threatening self-harm.
As officers made contact, the man ignored verbal commands to drop the knife, but he refused and made additional suicidal comments. Officers attempted to de-escalate the scene, but the man charged at them with the knife.
Officers fired their weapons, striking the man. Medical attention was administered at the scene and on the way to the hospital, but he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 37-year-old man.
The incident remains under investigation.
