Arlington resident kills intruder found in home in the middle of the night

On Thursday, December 21, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a home in the 1300 block of South Pecan Street to investigate a reported burglary and shooting.

When officers arrived on scene, the residents of the home directed them inside where an adult female was lying unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The residents told officers they were sleeping when their teenage son alerted them that he heard a voice he did not recognize inside their home. His father then retrieved a handgun and went to investigate. He found the woman in the kitchen and instructed her to leave. He told officers she became confrontational and began approaching him, at which point he fired his handgun, striking her.

The residents indicated they did not know the woman and had never seen her before. They and their kids were unharmed.

The woman did not have any identification on her. It’s unclear why she was at the home or how she got inside.

No criminal charges have been filed in connection to this incident.

Driver killed in collision with semi truck, Grand Prairie police say

The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in the intersection of N. Belt Line Road at Hunter Ferrell.

At 3:50 p.m., an SUV traveling north on Belt Line Road struck a semi tractor‐trailer as it turned south from Hunter Ferrell. According to witnesses, the driver of the SUV was driving at excessive speeds and ran the red light upon colliding with the semi tractor‐trailer.

The driver of the SUV, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed on the driver of the semi. This collision remains under investigation.

Man who crashed car along I30 was shot while driving, Dallas police say

On December 16, 2023, at about 5:25 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at eastbound Interstate 30 just prior to Harwood Road near Downtown Dallas.

The preliminary investigation determined a man was shot while driving a vehicle, subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a sign.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All lanes of eastbound I30 were closed for most of the morning hours while Dallas PD investigated the scene.

No suspect information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.

Young girl struck, killed by vehicle in south Arlington

On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at approximately 3:56 p.m., the Arlington Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS responded to the intersection of Sublett Road and Park Springs Boulevard to investigate an auto-pedestrian collision involving a child.

The child, a juvenile female, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Late Thursday night, medical staff notified the department she died from her injuries.

Investigators believe the girl was attempting to cross from the north side of Sublett Road to the south side when she was struck by two vehicles that were traveling in the eastbound lanes of Sublett Road. 

Both drivers stopped, remained at the scene, and have cooperated with the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed in connection to this incident. 

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the child.

Woman sitting on I30 fatally struck by vehicles, Arlington police say

At around 4:25am, Arlington officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to the eastbound lanes of I-30 near Fielder Road to investigate reports that a pedestrian had been hit.

After speaking with witnesses and reviewing other evidence, investigators determined an adult woman was sitting down in the far right lane of the highway – and by the time several eastbound drivers could see her, they were unable to avoid colliding with her.

The drivers that struck the woman stopped, called 911, and cooperated with investigators. They are not facing any criminal charges in connection to this incident. 

It’s unclear why the woman was sitting in the roadway. The investigation is ongoing. 

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify her once next of kin have been notified.

Somervell County sheriff’s deputy killed in crash

On December 13, 2023, at approximately 6:45a.m., Texas State Troopers were notified of a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 144 four miles south of Glen Rose. Upon arrival, Troopers learned that one of the vehicles was a Somervell County Sheriff Investigator’s truck operated by Sheriff Investigator Stephen Gibson. Investigator Gibson was killed in the traffic crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Investigator Gibson was traveling north on State Highway 144 when a white F150 pickup truck lost control traveling southbound. The white F150 struck Investigator Gibson’s vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information.

Investigator Gibson served the citizens of Texas as a Peace Officer for over 25 years. Please keep Investigator Gibson’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Man shot near Denton Police headquarters

The Denton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred this morning on E. Hickory Street near the Denton Police headquarters.

Police were notified that a man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He stated the incident occurred in front of the Denton Police Department.

Officials did locate blood in front of the building, prompting an investigation. But police say it is unrelated to the shooting.

Expect police activity in this area.

Armed woman pointed gun at Grand Prairie officers, forcing one to shoot her, police say

Today at approximately 7:10 PM, the Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a family violence call with an assault in progress in the 1200 block of Tripoli Trail.

Upon arrival, the victim was able to escape the residence through a window where officers met her and moved her to a safe location. While speaking with the victim, the suspect exited the residence, armed with a handgun, and began walking towards the officers and the victim while pointing the firearm at them. Fearing for their lives, and the life of the victim, a single officer fired their duty weapon striking the suspect.

Officers rendered first aid to the suspect who succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect’s identity, an adult female, will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

Intoxicated driver causes fatal crash near Dallas/Lancaster city line

On December 8, 2023 at about 7:00 pm, Dallas Fire Rescue and Police responded to a major accident in the 5900 block of University Hills Blvd.

The preliminary investigation determined a male driver and female passenger were traveling southbound on University Hills Boulevard and began to turn left into a shopping center parking lot. A second vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on University Hills Boulevard when he crashed into the victim’s vehicle.

DFR pronounced the male driver deceased at the scene. The female passenger was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and will be charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and will confirm the identity of the male driver.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

DWI charges pending against driver in double fatal northwest Dallas crash

At 3:29am, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Deputies were dispatched to a 3-car crash on NB Loop 12 (Walton Walker) and Northwest Highway.

Two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. One driver was transported to local hospital in serious condition. Charges are pending on the driver for DWI.

All northbound lanes of Loop 12 remain closed at Northwest Highway as of 9:30am. Clean up is in progress.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
