19-year-old driver killed in Arlington crash

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man.

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:39 a.m., Arlington PD, FD, and EMS responded to the westbound lanes of 2600 E I20 Freeway near Collins Street after receiving an iPhone crash alert. When officers arrived, they learned that the driver, a 19-year-old, veered into the right shoulder of the freeway and stuck an unoccupied, parked vehicle.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

As a result of the accident, two lanes of the I-20 Freeway were closed from approximately 01:45 to 05:00 AM, and two lanes and the exit ramp of northbound SH 360 were closed from 05:00 to 06:30 AM. All lanes reopened at 06:30 AM.

“The Arlington Police Department reminds the public to always wear your seatbelt when driving your car. Accidents can happen at any time, often when you least expect it. Wearing your seatbelt can reduce the risk of death and minimize the severity of injury after a collision.”

UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in Grand Prairie crash

The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred yesterday, May 14th, in the
3100 block of southbound South Highway 161 near Mayfield Road.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., a motorcycle was traveling southbound when a van entered the lanes of traffic from a private drive, failing to yield to the motorcycle, and collided with the rider. The rider was ejected and sustained serious injuries.

He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff. No other injuries were reported.

The motorcyclist has been identified as a 22-year-old man from Mansfield.

The crash remains under investigation.

Woman, three kids killed in Wise County crash

At around 5:30am this morning, multiple agencies from Wise County responded to a major accident on Farm to Market Road 1810 near County Road 1340 near Chico.

A preliminary investigation from DPS has revealed that a 32-year-old woman was driving westbound on FM 1810. She veered into the eastbound lane, attempting to pass in a no-passing zone, and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three children in the vehicle were also killed: a 10-year-old, a 7-year-old, and a 3-year-old, all from Chico.

According to Chico ISD, two of kids were students at Chico Elementary School.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Man drowns while swimming at Joe Pool Lake

At approximately 5:37 p.m., on Sunday, May 5th, Grand Prairie FD responded to a report of a possible drowning at Joe Pool Lake. A witness reported that the swimmer was last seen near the swim beach area, where he did not resurface.

The Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and rescue, in which the team located a male underwater.

The swimmer was then transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The male swimmer was not wearing a life vest.

He has been identified as a 24-year-old man.

This is the first drowning at Joe Pool Lake for 2024. As the lake season begins, GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate personal flotation device while near or in the water.

Child killed after vehicle submerges in water along Johnson County roadway

At 1:53am a call came into 911 of a vehicle stuck in swift water and in need of assistance off of CR 528. The vehicle was occupied by two adults (one male/one female) and a 5-year old male.

The 911 caller witnessed the occupants get out of the vehicle and attempt to get to dry ground on foot when all are swept into the flood waters.

Sheriff’s Deputies, the Fire Department, and Johnson County Emergency Management went in route. Responders arrived and began searching for the victims.

The male and female were both rescued around 5am and transported to the hospital.

The 5 year old victim was found deceased in the water around 7:20am.

The latest: Two earthquakes hit near Mansfield

The United States Geological Survey has released preliminary reports on two earthquakes that hit near Mansfield this afternoon.

At around 1:03pm, the first quake hit. The epicenter was off County Road 616 in the Lillian area of Johnson County. USGS has given this earthquake a 3.0 magnitude rating.

A second earthquake hit around 1:09pm. This quake’s epicenter was off Thomas Lane and FM 917 also near Lillian. It has been given a 3.2 magnitude rating.

No damage has been reported.

Kroger employee stabbed multiple times in robbery attempt, Fort Worth police say

At around 12:07pm this afternoon, Fort Worth police responded to reports of a stabbing at the Kroger, 9114 Camp Bowie W. Blvd.

Police say a man entered the store and attempted to rob one of the cashiers. During the robbery, the suspect stabbed the female cashier multiple times.

MedStar transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Her condition has been reported as critical, but stabilized.

The suspect was arrested at the store.

The investigation is ongoing.
