Three pedestrians struck by vehicle in Alvarado; two killed

The Alvarado Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 5:22 a.m. in the 700 block of South Sparks Street.

Alvarado Police and Fire along with CareFlite Ground EMS responded to an accident involving one vehicle and three pedestrians.

Preliminary investigation has revealed all three pedestrians were walking in the 700 block of South Sparks Street on the wrong side of the roadway near a right-hand curve when they were struck.

One female pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. She has been identified as a 20-year-old.

Two male pedestrians were transported to the hospital where one was later pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 22-year-old man.

The incident remains under investigation.

Father and son drown while fishing at Mountain Creek Lake

On Saturday, October 5, at 1:37pm, Dallas Fire Rescue were dispatched to a water rescue call on Mountain Creek Lake near the 2700 block of Mountain Creek Parkway.

Initial reports indicate a child was swept under the water while fishing in a creek just off the lake. The boy’s father jumped in to rescue him and was also swept under. Neither of them resurfaced.

Dallas Fire, Dallas Police, and Texas Game Wardens worked in conjunction to locate the two, and were able to recover the body of the father around 5:00pm on Sunday.

Efforts to locate the boy resumed first thing Sunday morning. The boy’s body was recovered after washing ashore near Mi Familia Park in Grand Prairie on the west shoreline of the lake.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken possession of both bodies. The investigation remains underway.

Shooting in Fort Worth Stockyards leaves 18-year-old dead, others injured

At around 3:15am this morning, Fort Worth PD, FD, and Medstar EMS were dispatched to a shooting in the 100 block of Northwest 24th Street.

When emergency responders arrived, they found an 18-year-old man shot in the parking lot of a business at the listed address. Three other victims were also located all sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say at least one suspect fired into a crowd at the location, and fled the scene.

The 18-year-old was a resident of Weatherford.

The incident remains under investigation.

Woman ejected, killed in crash near Rhome

On Wednesday, October 2nd, at 8:28pm, multiple agencies, including Wise County Sheriff’s deputy Lex Love, were dispatched to a major accident along northbound Highway 287 just north of the Rhome city limits.

DPS Troopers say a 52-year-old woman was traveling southbound on the highway when she veered into the median and struck a northbound pickup truck head-on. She was ejected and killed in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wise County Sheriff’s deputy Lex Love was responding to this crash when he was killed in a separate crash a few miles north of the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

Wise County deputy killed while responding to fatal traffic crash

Officials have released an update on the crash last night that claimed the life of a Wise County Sheriff’s deputy.

On October 2nd, at about 8:20pm, Wise County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lex Allen Love was responding to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Highway 287 just north of Rhome.

While responding to the scene, he crashed off the roadway and hit a tree along County Road 4421 just east of U.S. 287.

Additional deputies were nearby when the crash occurred. Deputy Love was non-responsive when deputies reached his WCSO cruiser. He was pulled from the burning vehicle, and life saving measures were administered.

Wise County EMS performed CPR as they transported Deputy Love to Medical City Decatur. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Love succumbed to his injuries.

“Lex Allen Love, 26, was an amazingly kind young deputy. He began working for WCSO as a jailer. A few years later he attended the police academy sponsored by Decatur Police Department. Lex became a Decatur P.D. patrol officer for a couple of years. He came back to WCSO in April 2024. Lex is one of the best law enforcement officers to ever wear the DPD and WCSO badges,” said Sheriff Lane Akin.

Lex leaves behind a beautiful and loving young family.
