Woman struck, killed on I20 after car trouble, Arlington police say

The Arlington Police Department is investigating an overnight auto-pedestrian collision along I-20 that resulted in the death of a woman.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at approximately 11:33 p.m., officers responded to the westbound lanes of I-20 near Matlock Road after receiving reports of a crash involving a pickup truck and a car.

When they arrived on scene, they located the vehicles as well as an adult female who was lying unresponsive in the roadway. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators determined the woman was the driver of one of the vehicles. Witnesses told officers her vehicle appeared to have stalled out and was sitting sideways across two highway lanes when the crash occurred. Investigators believe the woman exited her vehicle and was standing in a lane of traffic when both she and her vehicle were struck by the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Based on the conditions at the time and position of the woman’s vehicle, investigators do not believe the driver of the Tundra was able to see the car prior to colliding with it. No criminal charges have been filed in connection to this incident.

All westbound lanes of I-20 were closed for approximately four hours while crews worked to clear the scene, but have since reopened.
