UPDATE: Cedar Hill police kill man who shot woman on highway, authorities say

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 8 pm, officers responded to the 1400 block of N Highway 67 regarding a major disturbance involving two vehicles. The caller reported that someone had shot at his vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway. While conducting a high-risk stop on the car, a female exited the passenger side and was shot by the driver. The male driver exited the vehicle with a firearm. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the male.

Officers rendered aid to both subjects until paramedics arrived. EMS transported the male to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The female was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the incident. In accordance with department policy, following a critical incident, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Man found shot dead in car, Fort Worth police say

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Fort Worth police officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 2200 block of David Drive.

Officers arrived on scene and located one adult male inside a vehicle. The victim sustained several gunshot wounds. 

Officers rendered medical aid until Fort Worth Fire and EMS arrived to assist with medical treatment. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel.

Preliminary details are very limited at this time, police say. Homicide detectives are actively investigating.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death and confirm the identity of the victim.

Driver critically hurt, passenger killed in crash while evading police, Fort Worth police say

On January 3, 2026, at approximately 2:40am, Fort Worth Police Officers in the Stockyards observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on Exchange Avenue. Due to the traffic infraction and potential danger to the general public, the officers attempted to stop the vehicle. 

The occupants of the vehicle failed to comply with the officer(s) commands, made a U-turn, and fled the location. Information about the suspect vehicle was shared with officers in the area.  

A few minutes later, a different police officer patrolling in a marked police unit observed the described suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspect vehicle fled again, eventually lost control, and crashed into a utility pole near the 1500 block of E 4th Street.

The passenger was extracted from the vehicle but was unresponsive. Officers immediately began to render medical aid; however, the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation.

SWAT standoff concludes in south Arlington

At around 9:00pm Friday, Arlington Police received a 911 call from an individual in another city who indicated several family members were inside a home in the 900 block of Salida Drive and were not being allowed to leave by a known suspect who was possibly armed. 

Officers responded to that address and set up perimeter around the home. They were able to get in contact with one of the family members inside who told officers they had locked themselves in a room to get away from the suspect.

Given the info APD had at the time that this was possibly a hostage situation, the APD SWAT team responded to the scene and eventually made entry into the house. They got all of the family members (two adults and three children) out safely. None of them were harmed. 

They searched the house for the suspect, but did not find anyone else inside the home.

The family members later clarified they never saw the suspect display a gun —  and although he became upset following an argument, he never threatened them. 

At this time, no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.

Multiple people shot during fight at northwest Dallas club

On January 1, at approximately 3:45am, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at the Pink House Club located near Empire Central Drive and I35E.

When emergency responders arrived, they located multiple people injured from gunshots. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported five victims to local hospitals, one in critical condition.

Dallas police say the shots rang out during a fight at the club.

Within the first hour of 2026, Dallas police responded to multiple shootings across the city. This one was the most serious of them all.

Security guard kills woman armed with weapon, FWPD says

On January 1, at around 5:44pm, Fort Worth police responded to a shooting in the 2600 block of S. Riverside Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female with an apparent gunshot wound to her chest. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.

Officers detained the suspect who works as a security guard for the location. Detectives found that the security guard had told the woman that she needed to leave, but she argued with him. She advanced towards the security guard who then pepper-sprayed her. She then retrieved a “stabbing weapon” from nearby and advanced again on the security guard who then fired his weapon.

Homicide detectives are investigating this incident.
