Man confesses to shooting, carjacking after victim’s body found in Fort Worth, police say
On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Fort Worth Police Missing Persons Unit was notified about a missing person who did not return home from work on April 13, 2026.
Missing Persons officers learned that the victim’s car was found at the Quality Inn at 121 E I-20 Frontage Road in Arlington.
On April 15, 2026, officers reviewed video surveillance from the motel and learned that an unknown person (suspect) arrived at the motel driving the victim’s car shortly after he left work.
On April 16, 2026, Missing Persons officers met with homicide detectives who took lead of the investigation. Detectives identified the suspect, and he was arrested for unrelated charges.
On April 17, 2026, homicide detectives found the victim’s body in an open field on the east side of Fort Worth.
Detectives spoke with the suspect, and he confessed to shooting the victim and stealing his car.
Detectives learned that the victim and suspect worked together.
The suspect, Gregory D. Lewis, 34, remains in custody. Homicide detectives will be filing a capital murder charge.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner, cause of death, and identity of the deceased.
