Man dies after jumping from bridge while attempting to evade police in Dallas County
At around 7:15am this morning, DPS Troopers and Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a high speed chase of a vehicle that eventually ended in a crash near Loop 9 and Ferris Road in far south Dallas County.
According to scanner traffic, law enforcement officers on the scene reported the suspect jumped off a bridge, resulting in significant injuries. Officers called for assistance from paramedics.
The Lancaster Fire Department responded to the scene with multiple resources. They utilized their ladder truck in an effort to rescue the suspect from the ground below.
A CareFlite helicopter was called to the scene, and landed nearby to airlift the suspect to a local hospital; however, it was determined the man was already deceased at the scene. It is believed he died from injuries sustained in the jump off the bridge, although official determinations will be provided by authorities.
The incident remains under investigation.
