Man and juvenile killed in high speed crash, Grand Prairie Police say
The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred Wednesday, August 12th, in the 500 block of N.E. 5th Street.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., an SUV traveling southbound on N.E. 5th Street struck the back of a parked waste collection truck. The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grand Prairie Fire Department medics.
Three other occupants, all juveniles, were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Hospital staff later notified investigators that one of the juveniles succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased. A second juvenile was listed in critical but stable condition, while the third juvenile sustained minor injuries.
Witness statements and surveillance video from nearby businesses indicate the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. Investigators also determined that the occupants were not wearing seat belts.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as a 28-year-old man, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The collision remains under investigation.
