Investigators working to determine if shooting death of teen in Everman was intentional or by accident

The Everman Police Department is working to determine if the shooting death of an 18-year-old man on Monday was an intentional act or a terrible accident.

Police and paramedics were called to a convenience store in the 1700 block of Everman Parkway on Monday evening in reference to a person that had been shot.

First-arriving responders located a male with a gunshot wound to the back. CPR was administered as paramedics transported the victim to JPS, but he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives say the victim was driving a vehicle occupied by three passengers. As the vehicle pulled into the convenience store parking lot, one gunshot was fired from a gun in the back seat of the vehicle, striking the victim (driver) in the back.

The passengers immediately began calling for help and attempted to treat the man’s wounds.

Police detained all three passengers, but a thorough investigation is still in progress to determine whether or not the shooting was intentional or by accident. The passengers are cooperating with the investigation.

No charges have been filed as of yet.
