Driver killed in rollover crash on Central Expressway in North Dallas

The Dallas Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred late yesterday (Monday) afternoon in the southbound lanes of Central Expressway (US-75) near Midpark Road.

Investigators say driver was in the HOV lane attempting to merge onto the main lanes before the concrete barrier. As the driver attempted to merge over, he ran over the stanchions on top of the dividing lines just before hitting the wall and causing his vehicle to go airborne.

When his vehicle was airborne, a second driver following closely behind was unable to avoid hitting the elevated vehicle. The second vehicle drove up under the airborne vehicle, causing the airborne vehicle to flip over on its roof.

The driver of the vehicle that overturned was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as a 41-year-old man. The second driver was not seriously injured.

Dallas Fire Rescue responded for reports of a person trapped in the overturned vehicle, but the heavy rescue response was canceled. Dallas Police had lanes closed for a few hours while they conducted their investigation.
