Juvenile arrested after two children hurt, one fatally, in accidental shooting near Forney

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accidental shooting that occurred last night (Tuesday) around 5:15PM at a house in the 2100 block of Juniper Drive, located in the Windmill Farms community near Forney.
Investigators say a 14-year-old male juvenile, who was a neighbor, and three siblings were inside the house playing with a gun when it went off. A bullet struck a 1-year-old child.
Emergency responders administered life-saving efforts to the 1-year-old child, but the injuries were too severe. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene. A sibling of the 1-year-old sustained an injury to the hand. He was transported by ambulance to a Dallas hospital in good condition.
It was determined that the 14-year-old was in violation of the law while carrying a weapon. The sheriffs office arrested and charged him with Unlawful Carrying Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor) and Making a Firearm Accessible to a Child (Class A Misdemeanor). He was taken to the Kaufman County juvenile detention center.
Investigators are still working to determine why the shooting occurred and what led up to the incident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
