Dallas police officer killed after being hit by intoxicated driver

The Dallas Police Department is investigating a fatality accident involving one of their own officers overnight. The officer has died of his injuries.

At around 1:45am this morning, a Dallas police officer was assisting on the scene of a major accident along the northbound lanes of Central Expressway near Walnut Hill Lane. The patrol car had its emergency lights activiated.

The driver of a passenger vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the officer, who was standing outside of his patrol car.

Emergency personnel rushed the officer to Baylor Hospital, but he was pronounced deceased.

The driver who hit the officer was found to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody. A female passenger in the vehicle is being interviewed by investigators. Neither the driver nor the passenger were seriously hurt.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer’s family and the entire DPD during this difficult time.
