NEW: Two people seriously hurt after airplane crashes on approach to Bridgeport Airport

The Texas Department of Public Safety and FAA are currently investigating a plane crash near the Bridgeport Airport in Wise County.

At around 3:30pm today, the pilot of a Beechcraft airplane was coming in to land on the runway when the plane clipped trees on approach. The plane crashed just short of the runway.

Two men inside the airplane, identified as a 78-year-old and a 76-year-old, were both taken to DFW-area hospitals with serious injuries. One of the men was airlifted from the scene by Air Evac Lifeteam 68 helicopter.

Bridgeport FD, Wise County EMS, and Wise County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene for a major accident. It appears two vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 380 after the plane crash. No major injuries reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will lead the investigation.
